Take to the waterways

Only 3 miles downriver is the pretty village of Culmstock. Park beside the Culm Valley Inn  and then enjoy a walk along the old railway line by the river and you may even spot an otter. Then pop in for a thirst quenching pint or have a spot of lunch in the village cafe. Further downstream you might like to visit Coldharbour Mill. This museum is also a rare example of a working woollen mill.

Just 12 miles away is the Tiverton Canal where you can gently float past fields on a horse drawn barge

Fancy fishing, golf or a ride on a steam train?
Perhaps go trout fishing at Hollies Trout Farm where you can have your catch smoked.

Bring your clubs if you enjoy a round of golf. Pickeridge, Oake Manor and Otter Valley all offer golf to non members.

Enjoy a ride through pretty countryside on a steam train to the seaside town of Minehead. The West Somerset Railway offer lunch or dinner on board.

You can't forget the beaches

Head for the sunniest coast. You can check the forecast and either drop down to the South Coast to the pretty seaside villages of Beer or Branscombe (20 miles) Both of which have excellent pubs selling great food. At Beer, fishing boats can take you out to catch mackerel. Take the coast roads East to Lyme Regis (26 miles) for fossil hunting and then enjoy the best fish and chips or book for a superb meal at Hix or go West to enjoy the genteel regency town and formal cliff top gardens and tea rooms of Sidmouth. (25 miles) A little further, but great for a sunny day, laze upon the two mile stretch of golden sand at Exmouth (31miles.) These resorts are all part of the recently designated Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site.

For the surf, take a trip up to the North Coast to the golden sandy bays  of Croyde or Saunton or the award winning Woolacombe beach (55 miles)

We are within easy reach of many stretches of the South West Coastal Path as it meanders along the North coast of Devon and Somerset and along the South coast of Devon and Dorset.
